The chill in the mornings and evenings means that autumn is upon us! September is almost over, which means it’s time for another monthly roundup of the most talked-about design topics here at Goodpatch.
Past roundups:
Goodpatch ♥s new stuff: August roundup of our favorite services, apps, and design
Goodpatch ♥s new stuff: July roundup of our favorite services, apps, and design
Goodpatch ♥s new stuff: June roundup of our favorite services, apps, and design
Apps
Sketch Mirror
http://www.bohemiancoding.com/sketch/mirror/
An app that allows you to mirror any design you create on Sketch to an iOS device. You can conveniently swipe between your artboards and pages.
Scene
http://www.scn.jp/en/
A app for sorting photos and sharing with friends. So far the Tokyo-developed app only seems to have a Japanese version. Go to their website and look in the bottom left corner for a mysterious black blob that says random things in Japanese and runs away if you move your cursor too close.
Memoir
http://yourmemoir.com/
An app that makes it easy to reminisce on the memories that go along with your photos. Along with allowing you to search among your photos by date or place, it will also present you with photos that your friend took of you 2 years ago on the same date or perhaps just minutes before at a party. The app design for iOS 7 is very smooth and attractive.
Coast
http://coastbyopera.com/ja
Opera’s iPad web browser. With most buttons eliminated, the browser is controlled primarily through gestures.
Tools
stand in
http://standin.io/
A yet-to-be-released prototyping tool that connects Photoshop with iOS (Android support also coming soon, according to this tweet).
Marvel
https://marvelapp.com/
A tool that hooks up with your Dropbox photo files to create shareable, interactive prototypes. The URL created for the prototype makes it not just easy to share — but easy to test your prototype on different browsers and devices.
Prototypo
http://prototypo.io/
A font generation tool that is set to have it’s beta version released in October, along with a crowdfunding campaign.
Front-end related
Sidebar Transitions
http://tympanus.net/Development/SidebarTransitions/
A site offering samples of various off-canvas sidebars.
Star Wars opening crawl from 1977
http://codepen.io/TimPietrusky/pen/eHGfj
The Star Wars credits recreated from HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Theme music included.
Gadgets
theQ
http://www.theqcamera.com/
The self-proclaimed “idiot-proof” (and waterproof) camera that automatically uploads photos to the web as the first social camera. The camera comes with a ring flash and is available in nine pop colors, such as “ketchup”, “cupcake”, and “ice, baby”. From the official website, it looks like theQ is hoping for a largely hipster market base.
Nymi
http://www.getnymi.com/
A new type of security device that forgoes passwords and fingerprints for the beating of your heart. Just by wearing the black bracelet you will be able to unlock your car, computer, or smartphone. Multiple people here at Goodpatch have already sent in their preorders!
Other
Random Thing Generator
http://www.randomthing.me/
As the name states, a site that randomly generates the name of a person, address of a place, or name of a business. We especially like the paper animation that occurs when you hit refresh.
Hands On Search
http://sawareru.jp/
Yahoo! Japan provides a new type of search that combines with the power of 3D printing to instantly produce a tangible result for a searched keyword. The video shows students from University of Tsukuba’s Special Needs Education School trying out the machine to search for such things as a Tyrannosaurus rex or Tokyo Sky Tree.
How was September’s roundup? We hope you check back in October for our next roundup!
